THAT'S A CHRISTMAS TREE!

Well I thought it was about time I started getting in the Christmas mood. So this year I decided to buy a smaller tree in order to be able to fit it into the lounge without to much upheaval!

We have gone very up to the minute, arty with a tree with no leaves and some frost/snow
the rumours that I bought this tree because it would make a great Sasha prop after Christmas are vastly.....

Correct!!!  Now to decorate it in a minimal fashion... now there's a task !

Mabel the lodger cat looks like she's giving herself to us for Christmas !!

  1. LOL what can I say! I have done something very similar!!! Well I admit that mine looks a bit more like a traditional Christmas tree but it is small, I mean really small, and not just on display but because we're down here at the coast and haven't as much room, we had to go erm ... small! But I do have some decorations for it too....and a little crib. Actually, it'll end up taking more space than the regular tree LOL.
I do like this new tree of yours though, the minimalist look is very 'in' and this will indeed make a great prop in the New Year.
And as those with style say, "less is more!"

    1. I will be putting some decorations one it, although Paul's trying to say we need new SMALL ones.... I'm for checking out what we have first as I do like some colour! The Sasha's have a new small tradional green fir tree once I find somewhere to put it up!!
      :)xx

  2. Have you ever read 'The Good Master' by Kate Seredy? In the last chapter of the book the Hungarian Shepherds make a Christmas tree because they are snowed in, so they carve the trunk and branches and the whole family of the Good Master glue coloured paper and straw onto the branches to make the fir/pine needles then decorate it with threaded popcorn. The description of the home made Christmas in a snowed in Hungarian farmhouse of 100 years ago is one of my favourite Christmas stories (especially the previous chapter about the real Santa Claus). Your minimalist Christmas tree and hopeful looking Sasha girl reminded me of that story (well, I did re-read those chapters the other night).

    1. No I have not read that book but sounds beautiful, so will check it out. I did buy a silver chain of tiny bells with clear stars on, that looks quite good, gives it a frosty/icicle look, Paul wants to keep it minimal and with a theme, not sure I can managed no colour! but time will tell :)

    2. It is still in print (first published 1937). I have an ancient hardcopy from the 1940s which belonged to my mother, it is much treasured. There is a follow up story (The Singing Tree) and Kate Seredy also wrote The White Stag (all Hungarian based stories, though she was writing in the USA about her Hungarian childhood).

    3. The singing tree sounds familiar, I will definitely get a couple of the books to read in the new year.

  3. It certainly now looks as though you have 'caught the Christmas Spirit' today. Nothing quite like an excuse for a little more cash spending then at your's and Paul's favourite place a Garden Centre! (Dare I ask if he managed to purchase a few more plants whilst there?)
Looking forward to seeing how you finally decorate it!

    1. Only by the tail Kendal, still working and so trying to get things started in the hopes by next weekend they'll be finished. No plants this time, Paul's had a bad cold, so he's not interested at present.

    2. Might I add that you're further along in your Christmas preparations than I am here at the moment, especially with now having to re-think the Sasha Xmas cards, that is if there's time!
So sorry to hear about Paul's cold. Hope that he's soon better and able to think of buying new plants again.

    3. Paul's says thank you, I say don't encourage him to buy plants! No time for Sasha cards this year , will have to get act together next year for those!

  4. Love it. It looks very much like there are so MUCH opportunities!
    How about walnuts and stars?
Or simply a chain of what you prefer (it's easy to put on:)
As Dollmums book suggested, popcorn is such a great idea.
Or use these things to cut out biscuits (Don't know the word), with a bow on the branch...

    1. Thanks I agree many opportunities :) Someone suggested colourful birds, so I have filed that for use in the new year unfortunately too busy at work to do any homemade things but will keep them all in mind for another time.
Someone also suggested having a couple more...... :) I will have to look in the sales.... :)

  5. I love the coloured birds idea :) I like the clean simple lines so would keep colour to a minimum this year, but have some nicely wrapped presents surrounding the base...
