WINTERSDOTTIR

Today while I was at work a wonderful parcel arrived. I knew her name the minute I unwrapped her from the tissue.

Her name is Ingrid Wintersdottir.

Ingrid was made for me by Janet Myhill Dabbs a talented Artist and doll maker.

Janet's creativity extends from the top of  Ingrid's head to the tip of her toes, see the sweet little blue felt boot she wears. Beautiful winter fabric for her full skirt. A muff to help keep  her hands warm.

In December having seen another gorgeous Little Poppet finished and on her way I decide that I wanted to own one of these gorgeous girls. So a couple of messages back and forth, Me saying I wanted her to represent Winter, in whites and blues with pale blonde hair and Janet coming back with , yes snowflake headdress and fur cuffs, her creative juices sparked, her mind already picturing how this girl of winter should unfold.
Then just before Christmas Janet sent me her photo's and there she was Wintersdottir , Wintersdaughter .

She greets our reindeer like an old friend.

So here she is Ingrid Wintersdottir, Ingrid the daughter of winter.

I would like to thank Janet for turning my request into this gorgeous girl. It can be a worry when you can see something in your head and you ask someone to create that vision with just a few ideas from you, if you pick the right person, you will get your dream, the wrong and you could get your nightmare... I am so pleased to say if you pick Janet you'll get your dream. I did.

NB: I have chosen the Scandinavian way of saying her name Wintersdottir, if a man was called winter and he had a daughter, she would be known as Dee Wintersdottir, Dee the daughter of winter.
I could see this poppet running through the snow on a crisp winters day laughing happily while being chased or chasing her friends....a true daughter of Winter.

  2. So your cute little Miss is named Wintersdottir, perfectly matching her outfit and the season!

I love a book named 'Kristin Lavransdatter' by Sigrid Undset. 'Dottir' seems to be an ancient norwegian version -or islandic. Sounds better!

    1. Yes She told me her name as soon as she arrived. I love that in the Scandinavian countries, the children's surnames begin with the parents name followed by daughter or son and the spelling and sound so perfect to me :)
I did wonder why that name ;)

  3. Your New Year certainly seems to have got off with a HUGE Dolly start. So many different dolls just literally tumbling into The Village at the rate of knots.
She is a perfect doll to represent the Winter months. Well done to you for your idea and Janet for interpretting it so excellently.

    1. That's kind of you to say Janet. It was as if all the pieces fell into place when she arrived and I wanted to take the photo, I remembered the recently purchased winter backdrop and then the reindeer! The perfect setting for her.
Thank you for turning my brief into my dream girl. xx

I think Janet did a super job of making her.....but now I think my crystal ball is telling me you might need a girl for each of the other three seasons too perhaps? ;)
