THEY ARE DOLLS!!!

There is an NP doll waif that's appeared on ebay with the following description

.*  Sasha dolls are renowned for their bizarre origins as representations of holocaust victims. Sasha Morgenthaler created face sculpts for her dolls with subtle expressions not an exaggerated smile like most dolls her concern was that children surviving the horrors of WWII would not relate to dolls that looked so happy

I wonder where this person gets their information to form this opinion? It's a DOLL , and Sasha Morgenthaler was making dolls for children to enjoy!
I have always found it amazing how some people interpret things, especially when that person's no longer around to defend themselves or say how or why they did something. Do they think by saying this the doll will have more value? or do they not want to sell and are hoping this will put people off?

People should deal in facts and not add their opinion onto something. It's amazing how people will form opinions without checking with the person it relates to or any information that's available to them about that person..

So by their interpretation Wolfgang here must have a button nose because ? Children would be less able to smell gas? his eyes are black because of the horrors he's seen ? his hair stands on end because of the shock?
Bloody Hell , it's a doll and was made for the ENJOYMENT of children and has nothing what so ever to do with the war.

I'm getting off my soap box and having a cup of tea and then I'll go back to ENJOYING my DOLLS because that's what they were made for ENJOYMENT .

NB It seems that went the error of their information was pointed out they amended the details but where on earth did they get or decide on that info in the first place!! surely they checked others Sasha doll listings!

  1. Yes they are dolls and we love them!!! Wolfie is my favorite of your button nosed kids. I just love his "shocking" hair!!! When I introduced my Bronson on the blog, and I pointed out his noticable ding on his nose, Kendal kindly reminded me that these were toys, playthings, dolls for children to play with! Yes, exactly so! Aren't we lucky to have dolls to play with??? :) xxx

  2. I was one of those lucky children who played with the first serie Sashas of both German and English origin. This was towards the end of the 60s and no child of doll-play age had actually lived through the war, even though we played with dolls for longer then than children of today.

Unfortunately, the idea that Sasha was concerned with not only giving children who had survived the war smiling dolls and that her dolls represented those who survived the holocaust was written up in the Wikipedia post on Sasha Morgenthaler and, whilst giving their source as Juliette Peers in 'Girl Culture, an Encyclopaedia' on Page 29, I am unable to find any way of accessing anything in Peers' article beyond page 25 of the book, so can't dispute the claim but it has been grabbed and either misread or deliberately misrepresented by the seller - even if the claim in the Wikipedia article is true. I have tried to alter the Wikipedia article by adding that, even if the claim about Sasha M's intent held true, it could only have done so for the studio dolls as the serie dolls were made long after the children of the war years were grown up. But Wikeedia only allows you to cite other printed sources, not make additions or alterations to the text, so I can't do anything - what does that say about the use of Wikipedia? We can be misled by one single article writer and nobody can do anything to change it?

Whether through misreading or misrepresenting, this person is attempting to sell a doll by giving it a raison d'etre that is incorrect. This might make it appeal to an entirely different type of person to the normal Sasha collector and substantially raise the selling price.

    2. The german Text is short, bur correkt.

I entered something at the 'Talk' site of the english Wikipedia Morgenthaler-site.
But my english is poor. Perhaps a native speaker could post something more elaborated there?

  4. LOL Some people are completely crazy! I'd say this person was living in hope that the doll would go for a much higher price having described them as such, so I too would have been on my soapbox had I seen it!

    1. It's amazing isn't it how people will jump on such a thing when there's no mention by anyone else.... which therefore must mean it's not true , not that you know something people who collect the dolls don't!!
At least they accepted Anne's sword of right!! :)xxx
