WAITING...

Waiting..

Magda had been waiting for ages for these poisoned tarts to start working!

She'd eaten four and still felt  wide awake!

She was trying to get the energy to eat a fifth tart but was feeling a little queasy and felt she might be sick if she ate anymore.

Suddenly her peace was shattered by the sound of voices singing and stomping along the corridor outside her room !

" It was nine feet high and six feet wide and soft as a downy chick !"
" It was made from the feathers of forty 'leven geese ""Took a whole bolt of cloth for the tick !"

The door burst open and.....

babies and children started climbing all over the bed and settling themselves in
"WHAT !" Demands Madga throwing up her hands " ON EARTH ARE YOU DOING? "

Taking no notice of Madga's demands that they clear off ! The other children carry on singing while the babies gurgle along in tune!

" It could hold eight kids and ... four hound dogs!"

With that four of the dogs come rushing into the room and leap up onto the bed and start barking and rushing about trying to lick people .

"Get off!" Magda tells Marigold whose trying to lick her face , spotting something on George she asks " What's that? "

" A piggy we stole from the shed " they all sing...

"We didn't get much sleep but we had a lot of fun on Grandma's feather bed.... " they all sing loudly

"This is not Grandma's feather bed! It's mine and keep that pig away from me!" cries Magda while all the others are giggling and laughing and tussling with dogs and each other!

Just as the noise level starts to drop Percy walks in and surveys the scene before him
"Okay you lot OUT!" he starts helping the babies off the bed.

"Percy Percy " calls Magda " Get that pig! It's after me!" she squeals ..well almost like a pig!

Percy grabs the piglet and puts it down and it rushes off out and down the corridor closely followed by Zak trying to catch it before Mum sees it!

Anoushka and Olivia climb out of the end of the bed and make their way slowly towards the door grumbling.

"I don't know why Magda thinks she's got first dibs on any passing Prince! " complains Anoushka " He may prefer Brunette's and not like red heads!"
" Well he could like blondes too!" says Olivia then seeing Anoushka's look continues " but I'm sure he'll prefer a brunette ... "

"Right come on Elton Ron " says Percy starting towards the bed to pick the baby up
"Shh " says Magda " he's nearly asleep "
" Sleep " mumbles Elton Ron..
"You'd best leave him " says Magda with a sigh " I'll move him over the other side of the bed, can you tuck the covers in at the bottom, those girls have left a gap!"

Percy goes to the bottom of the bed while Magda tries to move a heavy Elton Ron from one side to the other !

Percy goes back to the top of the bed " All done " he says holding Magda's hand

"Percy you are so kind " whispers Magda leaning forward.

"Am I? " whispers Percy leaning down and just as their lips are about to meet..

" CUDDLE " demands a small voice from the other side making them jump!...

"Right " says Percy with a start ! He turns towards the door wondering what on earth happened! Magda watches him leave, a stunned look on her face.

"Cuddle " sighs Elton Ron tugging on Magda's arm
" All right you monster " smiles Magda  , Elton Ron chuckles " Mon ..ar.. "

She turns and snuggles up to Elton Ron's back hugging him She lets out a small sigh " I think I was nearly kissed by a prince !"
"Kisssss " mutters Elton followed by a small snore..

Within a few minutes all's quiet ,save for the baby's snuffles and the dreams of a young girl whose Prince may already be here.......

I would like to thank John Denver for the use of some of the words from his song Grandma's feather bed. He was a fabulous song writer / singer and his early death a loss to the world of Music.

The song Grandma's feather bed's been running through my head on and off for a few months because I knew this bed was perfect to do a post using it and the song. Maybe now I can stop singing it to myself.

  3. Absolutely adored it. Didn't know the words of the song so had to look it up. Reminded me of when we five kids all used to pile into my parent's bed on a Saturday and Sunday morning and discuss things whilst enjoying cups of tea from their tea maker. (During the weekdays Father would bring us our morning tea in each of our bedrooms.)
Loved the quilt, wall hanging and delightful story..

  4. Great story and a lovely wall hanging - but I'm now going to have to dig out JD's Greatest Hits - as I now have 'Grandma's Feather Bed' and 'Thank God I'm a Country Boy' merged as an 'ear worm'. Need to separate them and then hopefully clear them out!

  5. Hurly-burly meeting in Magdas bed - and I see, Princes are rare today and also in England.
(Are they completely disappeared? Did they go the way of the dodo-bird?)
Anyway - I just love the little pig!

Here another option for an 'ear-worm' (Ohrwurm; as we call that in german:)

  7. I love John Denver too! His song "Almost heaven, West Virginia" is where I live! The people that live in West Virginia consider this song to be the unofficial state song. John Denver was so talented!. :)

What a lovely bed for Magda and Percy is certainly a prince in my mind. What a dear boy! I hope Magda survived the many tarts in her tummy. She is a beautuful girl Dee. A great post! :) xxx
