LITTLE GREEN FINGERS!

The twins, Violet and Sapphire have been waiting patiently to show you their little Orchid, which due to their careful gardening is again flowering.

The twins have carried the Orchid outside to the patio table so you can see more clearly.

" Such a pretty flower !" says Sapphire touching the petals

"And a beautiful deep pink! " replies Violet stroking a leaf " It looks nice and healthy "

" And there are five flowers! More than ever before! " Sapphire says happily
"and another little bud!" agrees Violet

"We hope you like our Orchid " chime the girls together before giggling..

They get me to take a couple of Photo's just of their Orchid , so that they can add them to their gardening journals!

A close up, that they can study!

And a last photo of two proud little girls showing their pride and joy.

"We also have to say thank you to Rosie , Lora and Lonely who sent us a tiny Bird of  Paradise plant that they had brought all the way from Spain for us but whatever we tried it would not grow and began to look poorly!" says Sapphire
" Yes and whatever we did it just looked worse until it just gave up!" sighs Violet " But we thank you for sending it to us so we could try " Violet whispers " Even dad's one's not flowered yet !"
"Yes" whispers Sapphire  " Loads of leaves but no buds !"
"We hope you are all having a lovely summer in your gardens, see you all again soon!" " Bye!! "

  1. Ok, well done girls you can help me please! So when the flowers are gone, you cut all the brown off and wait? Watering how often please girls? I have one a friend bought me when I was ill, it's still flowering but don't want to kill it once it is done! Thank you and perfectly timed x

    1. Hello Auntie Louise :) its good you too have an Orchid. Now you must not keep it in a pot, it's pots must be see through so the light can get to the soil.
And you must only water it with rain water and just water from the top and let it run through but not stand in water, maybe only water once a week or ten days in winter but if it's very hot then you could water every four or five days.
We keep ours on kitchen windowsill but it's not in direct sunlight but is in a nice light place.

    2. Well thank you girls, you really are knowledgable about orchids, I think your mum would be very proud she's taught you so well! :)
Mine is on the kitchen windowsill not in direct sunlight too and in a glass so the sun gets to the roots (my mum had told me that) and it doesn't rest on the bottom of the glass so perfect for watering as extra water comes out and I can see it and pour it right away x

  2. That is a very pretty orchid girls, and you've obviously got very green fingers and tended it very carefully for it to flower so beautifully for you.
It's a shame that the Bird of Paradise plant didn't come to much for you but maybe it was too cool in England as like me, it might not be very happy without the Spanish warmth and sunshine! ;)
Maybe you can come and visit Spain one day and see the same sort of plants flowering here in their home environment! :)

    1. Thank you Auntie Sharon :)
Why does everyone say we have green fingers? our fingers are pink! Well sometimes they are brown when we have been planting in our garden but that washes off ! But green? we have not seen them turn green !
It was a shame about our birdy plant but at least we did not say the naughty word like Dad because he's not got any flowers!
We would love to come see your lovely sunny and warm garden one day and then maybe Dad would get one that flowers and we could get another to try!

  3. Congratulations and well done to you both. A very pretty colour too!
We here took up your advice on our bare stick plant (such a pity that we threw the other one away before we knew about this) and followed yoir instructions as best we could (hadn't any Orchid feed to hand and had forgotten about the 'rain' water bit) and now have a wonderfully large flowering two stemmed plant again.
We will take a photo asap and put it on our next blog post for you to see. Many thanks for this excellent advice.

    1. Thank you Ginger :) The twins are very proud of their Orchid. They like to be the same but different, so matching but different colour dresses work for them.
Sapphire , who is the younger, has the white dot in her eyes which Violet does not. Which is what helps me tell who is who ;)xxx

  6. You were very welcome for the plant girls. Don't worry that it didn't survive - I thing it probably just had too many journeys. Next time we'll see if we can get you some seeds, perhaps they'll do better!
Love your orchid - yeah you do have green fingers!

    1. Hello Auntie Rosie
We so wanted our bird plant to live, we wanted to have it flower and make Dad say that bad word, it makes us giggle when Mum gives him the not in front of the children glare!
Our Orchid is so pretty but honest Auntie Rosie , we wash our hands all the time and we don't have them green fingers!
      love Violet & Sapphire xx

  7. The girls have got the knack with orchids (only a little water, keeping the plant clear of bugs, plenty of light but not direct sunlight) - well done for achieving even more flowers the second time round.
