WORLD ELEPHANT DAY.

  1. On August 12, 2012, the inaugural World Elephant Day was launched to bring attention to the urgent plight of Asian and African elephants. The elephant is loved, revered and respected by people and cultures around the world, yet we balance on the brink of seeing the last of this magnificent creature.

  2. Such wonderful animals

They live in families and are gentle creatures.

Loving.

I have always loved Elephants and it is such a shame that they are hunted and killed for their tusks.

I have always had a collection of small elephants , below are three of them.

and funnily enough Paul bought me in Stratford a lovely little limited edition Elephant.

He is called Mumbo Jumbo and I loved him as soon as I saw him !

He was in the Teddy Bear shop and he looked at me and I looked back, I did go and look at all the other bears about the shop but then I was soon back at the counter and looking at him in his glass display case.

The shop owner told us all about the designer of him , how she'd sell her bears at Alexandra Palace teddy bear show, everyone would be there two hours before and she'd turn up with her small case 20 minutes before the door opened and that out her bears , then half an hour later close her empty case and go!

He reminds me of Elephant toys of old, Barbar and Rupert's friend whose name escapes me.
So apt that I should receive him just before World Elephant day.

  2. Elephants are lovely creatures, it's very sad that they are still hunted for their tusks. However, have you seen those reports on FB where the tusks are being dyed with something that doesn't harm the animal but makes their tusks useless to the poachers? I hope the idea catches on because if it works then it's certainly worth doing.
As for your tiny little elephant, he's so very sweet, I love anything miniature like this, a lovely gift for your anniversary from Paul. :)
    Big hugs Sharon xxx

  4. We love elephants in our family. I've been fortunate enough to have seen them 'in the wild' in South Africa (well, in game reserves). My daughters gave me a denim elephant shaped door stop for my birthday this year, an Elmer I bought for Dmd when she was born is in the basket of 'keepers' and we have various other soft toy elephants and some ornaments. Your Mumbo Jumbo is lovely, I can understand why you kept going back to him. I have heard of the tusk anti poaching paint - it needs to be properly funded and applied to all elephants and Rhinos.

    1. Whats not to love about Elephants :) I unfortunately have only seen them in Regents park Zoo many many years ago, not a place for such large animals.
I was so pleased to have come across Mumbo Jumbo :) I agree all elephants and Rhino's need to have this paint applied.

  5. Isn't it ridiculous we have to bring the plight of these beautiful creatures to anyone's attention! Peoples ignorance disgusts me.

Your little elephant is extremely cute indeed :) x
