COLLECTING....

is a something you do or you don't ! I have always been a collector I remember as a child collecting books, I loved Enid Blyton's Famous Five and The Secret Seven books. I would save my pocket money and go every few weeks to buy another book.
I still have all my collection , paper backs with price tags of 1 shilling and 6 pence. I also collect erasers at that time.

When I was older I collected Bookmarks from places I visited for holidays or school trips and also Key rings I remember a very large yellow one that had No on one side and Yes on the other and about another ten hanging all from the same ring , I don't however remember actually having a key!! I lived in South London in the days when the front door was only locked when you went to bed or everybody was out!

Over the years I have collected lots of different things, even now apart from Sasha's and Bramber Bears, I have Emma Bridgewater pottery and tea towels that I have finally started using after getting so many from so many different places over the years.

And of course a collector will have collection's of just a few items of a certain thing that takes their fancy.

My latest is tins!! Yes I know tin's ! I have always liked all the different styles of tins they bring out for Christmas but these ones are much smaller and so easier to keep and I am going to find a practical use for them.
These tins I have remind me of Hattie which is what drew me to them, also the pictures are so good, I am definitely a person who would buy a book by it's cover!!!

I think they may be based on a story book, if anyone knows please can you tell me, but I just love these winter ones.

In the same shop I also found the little Peter Rabbit tin and the tiny signs, perfect Sasha size. I am sure this collection will not be 'big' but then again who knows what I'll find now I am looking!!!

    1. Thank you Chris, I could not remember the name of the illustrations. I will be buying the books as that's another thing I have collected over the years Children's books with great illustrations :) although when we downsized I did have to sell or give away a few but am now adding some in readiness for future grandchildren!!
Nice to know I am not alone :) xxx

  2. What a lovely set of tins, I love the pictures on them. I too have a few pretty tins here, but I wouldn't say that I was a collector of those. I too loved the Famous Five and The Secret Seven too! As a child I also collected keyrings and my brother is still collecting them! I also collected beer mats which my dad and grandad would bring me from the Working Mens Club that they used to belong to in Rainham, Essex. Nowadays I have a collection of Nao ornaments by Lladro, I have 13 pieces although some are a bit broken from when we had a cleaner who suffered with her nerves and had shaky hands. :( And then there is the fabric!!!! I have soooooo much fabric that I suppose it could be said that I have a 'collection' of it....I think some people might say an obsession for it though!!!! I honestly have so much that I don't really know what I have now!!!!
    But it's fun, isn't it!!!!

  3. I WAS a collector of many things, low limited edition MIB Steiff Bears (only four left now) sheep related items (all but one gone) as I'm an Aries, ashtrays (only about five left) wooden ducks (one left) first day edition stamps, (still got them all but stopped collecting them several years ago) Isle of Wight glass birds (all gone) Beswick model horses (all gone) coins especially the commemerative crowns (still got them all but stopped buying them several years ago) Cabbage Patch Kids (all sold on now) My Child dolls (think that I still have one left somewhere but can't find it) toy bus models (all gone now) and leather bookmarks

Over the last ten years though I have been slowly selling all these on due to house down sizing ....with the exception of the bookmarks, of which I must have hundreds now.

Now my main collecting hobby is.....yes, you've guessed it....... Sasha Dolls!

    1. It's funny how reading what others have or do collect reminds you of things you also collected, like the beswick horses, I had a few but the thelwell pony ones, which have been sold now.
We all say we now collect Sasha's but there are still little collections of a few items here and there ! :)

  4. Belle and Boo illustrations are so lovely. Did you know they do fabric too?
I too have collected various things over the years like china boxes and glass. I still have lots of Russian Dolls which I love but think it would be fair to say that these days I collect balls of wool - they're taking over my craft room but I just can't resist them, all those lovely colours...

    1. They are so gorgeous1 I just love these tins and you say they have FABRIC!!! I'll have to get some of that to go with all my other unused fabric that I am planning to start using nxt year!!

Yes I must confess lovely coloured balls of wool are a big downfall for me too! lol I just love them and they are very hard to resist , I have to avoid the wool on ebay or suddenly I have half a dozen in the post!!!

  5. Sashas are my most recent collection, but have also collected several things other people have mentioned. Teddy bears - the first being bought for my mum by my dad when I was just a bump and most recently a couple of Charlie Bears - about 50 in all, but only one or two a year now. I also have a small collection of glass - Caithness, Isle of Wight Studio some 'one offs' and now Jonathan Harris Ironbridge glass - which is beautiful. The fabric pile is also growing, but will hopefully stay under control!

    1. Tebby bears are so hard to resist in any shape or size! I had a look at the Jonathan Harris glass, beautiful and I can see why you would collect it and of course the fabric pile ! Do you think in every house there is a little or big pile of fabric waitingto be used?
My stash gets looked at now and then and admired and then put away again while I try to resist adding to it!!
There is no hope for me.... :)

  6. Hmmm- I collect collections! I have had so many in my life, from bus tickets when I was 5 to the Sashas I didn't have when I was 5. If it can be collected at a reasonable price, then I've collected it at some point. Currently it is children's books I loved in my childhood and that of my own children, antique/vintage wooden boxes, vintage bears and dolls - predominantly, but not exclusively, Sashas.
Could be worse - I have a friend who has made a life-time collection of husbands - now all gone except one and he is pre-loved but I hope permanent, as my anxiety levels rise in December in case I name the wrong hubby on her Christmas card....!

    1. That sounds so cool collecting collections!! Books of your childhood is good and a popular theme.
I must say that your friend and her husband collecting seems to not quite have understood the collecting bug !! :) must indeed be worrying when writing Christmas cards !! but so tempting to list each one in order and then cross them out until you get to the current one... :)

  7. (Belle and Boo are so nice - I just gift their christmasstory to one of my my grandchilds.)

    As a child I collected parfum-bottle-miniatures.
I think we are still kind of 'Jaeger und Sammler' hunter-gatherers.
Prehistory seems not to be that far away:)

    1. Yes we definitely hunt for the things we like and gather them up !! Lol .At least we don't knock people on the head to get them....well I hope we don't !! :)
It seems that Belle and Boo are very popular everywhere :)

  8. Well; prehistoric gatherers luckily are less interested in parfumbottles and erasers.
(I just thought about how to hide such small thingies, if a viking wants to get them from me.
Under the tongue? Oh- mistake- vikings are not prehistoric *g)

    1. Are you sure??? Under the tongue could be dangerous you may swallow them when you try to call for help!! :) Viking's look for big bags of goods to steal , so little things should be safe :)
