Went to check if we had any damage from last nights stormy winds. First thing I found was that these two 6 ft fence panels had been blown down.
Well the winds last night were strong and we forgot to lay down our two covered benches. So we checked this morning and yes the wind had tipped both of them over.
Shows how strong the gust were these benches are not light.
This photo is taken after we have moved the bench back into our garden as it was laying in next doors having been blown onto it's back, there by taking out the two fence panels behind and to the left hand side of it, the two right hand panels had already been blown down in a storm a few weeks back, so now we have lost 6 fence panels!
Here you can see the panels laying in next doors!
The only thing holding this piece of trellis is the honeysuckle wrapped round it!.
The poor rose is still attached to the trellis on this fallen panel.
Again Honeysuckle laying against the fallen panels. Mm wonder if the neighbour would notice if we replaced the panels crossing his garden where that path ends?? I'm sure he'd be happy to have less to look after!!
Well looks like a big and expensive job ahead for us when the weather improves! I think we'll be going for concrete posts and gravel boards with fencing above. We have three other panels close to the house that are only standing because they are where there are some out buildings but the posts have gone( rotted) and they are moving in the wind!
And the gusts of wind is still blowing, so hope we don't lose any more.
******************************************************************************
Unfortunately I know this feeling only too well as I had three fence panels down (and they are the ones with the concrete posts and gravel board) with Wednesday's night's storm, one completely smattered to smithereens, so unrepairable.
ReplyDeleteLuckily yesterday's winds and rain weren't anywhere near as strong or as fierce up here so the rest of them have are 'still standing' this morning!
Hopefully Paul can repair them for the moment whereas I had to call in (and pay for) help. More Sasha money lost!
Life's never easy!
Forgot to proof read yet again! Will I ever learn?
Delete'Fierce' was misspelt by accident and the word 'have' needs to be removed from the same sentence.
It will have to be Paul and me who put up the new ones, cannot afford to get anyone in to do them due to other out goings at the moment!
DeleteI'm always forgetting to check my spellings etc,it's a nightmare! :)
I'll bet you feel like the whole storm was in your garden! We lost the top off a trellis some weeks back but DH is in no hurry to fix it until the stormy weather has passed.
ReplyDeleteHope you didn't suffer any damage to your house - lost tiles are always worrying and harder to fix!
Hopefully the weather is set to be better next week.
It was certainly windy last night and this morning! It's still gusting now! Two of the panels were blown down a few weeks back and we figured we'd wait until the spring to replace them! looks like we'll be doing a lot come the spring!
DeleteWe did a a piece of gutter , which was the old style heavy type fall from where it had lane on extension roof again for a few weeks, it rolls down and fell off with a lots of noise and my daughter was worried it was the Cat!!! I said unless that cat's wrapped himself inside a heavy object it could not be him due to the amount of noise!! lol
No tile's off thank goodness and they say the worst of the weather should be over! lets hope they are right!!
This looks so familiar! Will the wind, rain, snow and power cuts ever stop?
ReplyDeleteMuch worse down your way though, Let's hope this was a final fling before all goes back to it's nice calm ordinary weather!....
DeleteOh isn't it just dreadful! I have been watching the news and thinking of you all, and of my family who live in Cork in Southern Ireland, it was apparently even worse there......such a mess, and so expensive to fix. The only consollation is that none of you have been hurt.....I always worry in high winds about things falling from buildings.
ReplyDeleteI remember several years ago, when we had a particularly wet winter here.....it rained every single day from November through to early May, and the front of a couple of houses actually fell on to the pavement. One of them was a really decorative house front and it was just a miracle that no-one was injured, let alone killed.
So please keep safe everyone and don't try fixing anything until the stormy weather and high winds pass.
We got away very lightly compared to all those poor people who are flooded or have had trees or a roof down.
DeleteAnd exactly we were all fine and no one hurt, things can be replaced people cannot!
We won't be doing any fixing until the weather improves and that will take a while!!
I'm so sorry for you.
ReplyDeleteNow there's so much work waiting to fix the fence or build a new one!
It's not really stormy here, but a tree smaller tree in the garden tumbles over anyway.
We had to saw to free the way to the house. We don't really need these Extras, right?
Exactly Anne, we don't need these extras! But it could have been worse and a few days work will not hurt us just make us grumble!! lol
DeleteThen we can look back at the new fence and feel pleased with our effort!! Hopefully!!
Oh Dee, I'm so sorry to read of your (and many others') damage. Where I am, we're only dealing with extreme cold (snow also, but not so much as to be really damaging).
ReplyDeleteThat really looks bad! It must have been such strong winds! I’m sure everything will be fine. In the meantime, my thoughts are with you and the people in your area. I hope the weather gets better really soon. Best wishes!

I can only imagine how strong those winds were for the fences to be swept away. Are those strong gusts a common occurrence? Anyway, I hope the storm didn’t create any damage on it. Take care!
