ANOTHER PIECE OF FURNITURE

In my early Sasha collecting days I purchased this wooden settle , it was the first chair I purchased for them and I was so happy that when it arrived it was a good size for them.I have seen these for sale a few times since on Ebay.

Since getting the other chairs and the sofa I have not really used this one much.

Sansa and Ashley are sitting so you can see the size.

Ashley likes this settle but thinks it needs a cushion !

William and Kiki  are showing that it would now be perfect for them! Because up until I made the studio area bigger the Kidz n Cats dolls have been sitting on the sofa and armchair up in my bedroom, so now that the Sasha's have reclaimed their comfy chairs, the kids can now use this which is a very good size for them.

  1. You up and blogging already, chuck? It's nice to know you are there!

I think the settle looks better for the Kidz'n'cats. They look like real children on a bench designed for grown ups or children, as their feet don't quite reach the floor.

The Sashas look like baby-sized, if not baby faced, people as their legs are mostly on the seat. Even if they had knee joints, they would either have to perch on the edge or sit back with their feet sticking out as the the joint would then be on the seat rather than at the edge.

I have seen these in real, older folks' houses here in Wales where they are called spindle benches (a settle here has to have a hard, solid back to keep out the drafts). They always have a long, thin pad on the seat and there is great pride in producing the nicest possible design for the needlepoint on the pad and it is replaced when ever it looks even slightly worn.

'The spindle' is a much loved heirloom, but I feel sure they will not be in favour with younger people as it is hard to maintain them well if your needle skills are basic. I wish we had one, but B likes his soft furnished sofa and thinks I'm a little mad in my desire to turn back the clocks. So no joy there.....maybe I should settle for a doll-sized one?

    1. I just published this post before I went to work, I wrote it last night so it was ready for today! :)

I do agree that this size of this Settle suits the Kidz n Cats dolls better, the Sasha's do look a little on the small size on it.
My problem is I just love small furniture, I loved it when I had my dolls house and I love finding it for these Sasha's and Kidz n Cats Dolls! :)
I could happily fill a whole house with scaled down furniture given half a chance!! I think you should settle for a settle un petite !:)xx

    2. Problem..... I HAVE filled a whole house with scaled down furniture, people, dishes etc. etc. and it is so darned hard to find room to put boring things like human sized beds and chairs!
Our dog is currently lying with his head on a doll's table....it looks like one of those Japanese wooden pillows.

  4. Did this come from the US, Dee? My Zwergnase Juniors need somewhere to sit - or to fight over as there are, ahem, quite a few of them here.

  5. I agree with everyone else, the bench works so much better with the KnCs because of their joints. I like the design of this piece, it's pretty but yes, it needs a nice bright cushion to keep them from getting aching bottoms from the hard wood :)
    Big hugs Sharon xxx

  6. I too think that it suits the Kidz and Cats the best with their slightly larger torsos and double jointed legs.
Problem solved then.....well apart from the seat cushion.

    1. It would appear that's the vote for the Kidz, they'll be pleased to think I'll not come and take it off for the Sasha's studio.
Yes a seat cushion.... Mmmmm.. :)
