MABEL LUCIE AND A VISIT

I'm supposed to be going through my dolls clothes to reduce the boxes! However I looked , removed one item then decided I needed to redress poor Mabel Lucie first!

She is desperately in need of restringing but was still in her winter outfit looking very lovely but must have been hot!
So I decided she would be the perfect girl to have the new all in one summer set by Judith of Dolly Doodles.

For a very wobbly girl, she did very well standing outside ,after a few try's, on this very windy day.

She's not been restrung yet as I want to get some of those little metal clicks to join the string with and I've yet to find them. I may just have to make some!

I think this blue one piece really suits her.

I should have pulled her leggings straight once I moved her but didn't due to getting her to stand up without a wobble!

Earlier today we went to visit Wrest Park a English Heritage property. It's just up the road from us so quite quick to get to. Due to yesterdays gale force winds, they'd had some trees down, so the woodland area was not open but we enjoyed the house and a lovely lunch in their tea rooms.

I just wanted to share a couple of photos with you, as there can be nothing so boring as looking at loads of someones 'holiday' photos.

I just had to share this.. it reads.. It was de Grey's hope that ' no lady sets foot in it without thinking that the man who invented such a jewel of a place must be a sweet man '.

I just love this rich colourful carpet ... I would have indeed found him a sweet man to have made just a room :)

  1. Mabel Lucie is just so sweet :) I hope her restringing will make her feel better. What an old romantic Thomas de Grey must have been to design such a lovely sitting room for his wife.

  2. I'd love to visit Wrest Park for afternoon tea! Gale force winds? Doesn't sound like a good beginning to summer.

    1. They do a very nice tea :) The winds had dropped but still quite blowy during our visit, really a typical English summer , we like to have a little bit of everything during it!

  3. We visited Wrest park a few weeks ago for the first time and thoroughly enjoyed it - we'll return. I'm sad that some of the trees are down.

    1. It's a great place as you know. Yes they had even stopped the gardeners working in that part of the park and given them all jobs close to the house.
The lady on the front gate said that person who'd opened the huge doors that morning had almost been blown off his feet has he struggled to get in!

    1. He will rest easier knowing his room is still so well received by the Sweetman's ;)
Mabel Lucie was a trooper, she straightened her back and strengthened her head and won through :)

  5. What a charming room and with quite a pedigree - surplus architecture from Windsor Castle, no less!

  6. YOU DIDN'T SELL MABEL LUCIE!!!!!!!!!! I'm so happy. She's a favourite of mine and I thought she had gone.

Now I love a ood shot of a sately home. Did I ever tell you that my earliest career ambition was to be the cleaning lady at Temple Newsam house inYorkshire. The smell of beeswax polish on the acres of wooden floor and the glorios Tudor and Stuart furniture were intoxicating to me. Shame my love of housework lapsed over the years.... But I do love photos of historic houses, so go and see more so you can post about them, please!

    1. NO! She was very quiet and pretended nothing was happening until I came to my senses!
Me too! I love going round them and admiring everything but I have finally got to that age where I've decided I cannot move into one , they are just too big!! :)) Strangely I've never felt the need to own it to clean , I tend to think I'd have to employ half a dozen people just to keep up with all the hovering! and that the rooms are just to big to be cosy! So I'll settle for a small manor house with a couple of dozen acres !

  7. That really is a very pretty room, isn't it?! I love the carpet too and think the whole setting would make a great room for a dollshouse if it was completely miniaturised!
Mabel Lucie looks very nice in her blue romper, the blue is perfect for her. I have a couple of girls here (and a boy!) who are badly in need of being restrung, so please, if you do find any of those metal clips, let me know as I'd like to use those too. I've used knots before but it's not the same is it?

    1. It is and that's a great idea about it making a great room for a dolls house, the colours would look wonderful in miniature!

I will defo let you know if I ever find or manage to make something along those clips line. ;) xx
