REMEMBER WAY BACK WHEN...

Do you remember way back when .......I sat for my daughter Lindsey so she could do her first painting using acrylics  ? Well there was a good reason that she wanted to paint my picture, despite the usual reasons, you know the one's ..... I have a face that needs to be recorded for posterity , a face that could launch a thousand ships ( heading away a double knots!!) etc etc , NO they were NOT the only  reasons.:)

I thought I'd save you all from seeing that picture again and show you Lindsey's study of her hand instead. Anyway where was I ?

Oh yes the reason Lindsey wanted to do the painting is because she was applying to a prestigious school of Art in France to try to win one of only thirteen places on a three month course this summer.
The application is judged on just TWO pictures that you send, either two drawings, two paintings or one of each. Nothing else is considered just those two pictures. Lindsey decided to send a life drawing and my portrait , which is what the rush was about! They only look at the application form once the decision's been made.
It is with much pride that I can now tell you that Lindsey was offered one of those places and will be off to France for twelve weeks at the end of May.

She is looking forward to learning from the talented teachers while spending her days doing what she loves best drawing and painting and meeting her fellow pupils from  American, Japan, France and the elsewhere in the world.

  5. Proud Mom again :) Congratulations!
She's very talented and will have a interesting time there in france.

(I must think at f.e. Monet and his garden, or Paula Modersohn, who lived in the 19th century and fought for her chance (as a women) to draw in Paris. All artists has to be there one time! )

Well done Denise for having such 'a face of fortune!'
PSI am expecting to see some great portraits of your mother and father (not to mention her Sasha Dolls!) after such a course.

  10. PS - Dee, I thought I'd managed to avoid H painting my portrait when she was doing GCSE art. I was pretty sure the being faced with reality whould shatter what few illusions I have ever had about my looks.....so the brat used a photo of me that she took WHILE I WAS ASLEEP!........and the school exhibited the resulting oil painting (no oil painting, I can assure you - mouth open, face squashed in ) in the education office where everybody knew me. I have never lived it down and had to flee London, that's why we live in Wales...

  12. Many thanks everyone for your good wishes.
The school is some way outside Paris but I am sure she'll probably take a trip there on the one week of rest she gets in the middle of the course.
When Lindsey did her foundation art year, they asked if she'd be doing fine art but she had always wanted to do animation , so she has her degree in that.
At present she works for a top animation company but wants to increase her skills and give herself breathing space to decide where to go from here. When you leave the house at 7.30 am and don't get back until 8 pm , you just need to take the time to stop and look and breath and decide and this will give her that time.
