A LOOK INSIDE

FOR BERTIE.

Bertie our button friend from Wales asked what book Claudia was lazing in front of , so Ollie, his good friend decided to show him.

"Here it is Bertie " says Ollie " A Life Drawing by Shirley Hughes. Mum used to read her books to her 'real' children when they were little "

"It's all about her life spent drawing people and places "

" This is my favourite drawing in this book " says Ollie " I wish I had a giant bird like this one!"

" Shirley likes drawing and she's very good at it!" says Ollie

"This is the page you could see behind Claudia , It shows a lady reading to the children, just like Maude was reading to Claudia "

" look at all the children on this page!"

" I would like to do some drawing " Ollie studies the picture closely.

" Alfie and Annie Rose starred in lots of books mum read to her girls "

"So there it is Bertie. I think I'll be an  ill ust.. ust..rat.. a drawer when I am bigger !" declares Ollie " but only if I cannot be a fireman first oh or a footballer.. or a detective or a police man or....... "

I think we'd best leave Ollie  here as he's still deciding  ( a baker , Ollie continues... or an archer or ... ) he likes lots of different things and since he's only six, he's got lots of time to make his mind up !

  1. Those illustrations are beautiful. We can see why Ollie is a big fan. Yes, deciding what you want to be when you grow up can be tough. Daddy Steve still doesn't have it completely figured out yet.

    1. She is a very talented Illustrator and my girls and I love her books.I have to confess I'm just like Daddy Steve and Ollie, I only went back to the bank while I decided what I wanted to do and here I am nearly twenty years later still trying to make up my mind!!

I hope little Ollie gets his wish to be one of those things on his list when he grows up!!!

    1. It is . I used to draw too when I was much younger but as you say you need to keep at it to improve or keep the skill.
I hope Ollie decides by the time he needs to just what he wants to do :) xx

  6. OOOOOOOH....meanie Mam never switched on to blogger cos ahe thought Mrs. Mum would be too busy to post again so soon, so I never got to look at this until today, Saturday.

Thank you so MUCH Ollie and Mrs. Mum! I now have this book on my Why Wait Until Christmas list.

Mam has read loads of Shirley Hughes books to me - my favourite is Dogger and Baby Gaku likes Alfie's Feet - but she has never heard of this one so, when she goes to sleep tonight, I shall sit on her pillow and whisper .....' You need to buy Bertie a book called A Life of Srawing, you need to buy....' and hope she gets something called a subliminal message - wot means she'll stop being clueless.
    Loads of love,
    Bertie xx

  7. Always loved these delightful books by Shirley Hughes with their detailed illustrations.
My daughter's favourite was the book about visiting the seaside with all that was involved within that outing...swimming costumes, the sea, sand, shells, buckets and spades and little fishing pool nets.
Super set up with that pile of graded books acting as a pedestal.

    1. I think most people in the UL know her books and have read them to their children over the years. :)
