11th DECEMBER

Well it's come to my notice that it's going to be Christmas in a week or two!! Once upon a time I would have been ready by the 1st of December ! House decorated , tree up, presents bought, cards written and posted on the 1st!

I was so sure I had more time! The cards remain unwritten and I am now in the panic mode for gifts! mainly because I did not add in the fact that several will need to be posted!
Then add in the fact that I can only buy things I like and know the person will like ! so that makes it harder to actually wrap them and give them away!

Then there are people all over the place putting on Sashas, Gregors, babies and other dolls I collect for sale! Which makes it harder to pay attention to the task in hand !

Then there is actually going shopping and seeing all the little bits and pieces of totally useless items that are so pretty and perfect for this time of year and trying not to add them to the basket!

But I do love December, not for the commercialism, but for all the wonderful displays and items made by talented craft people, the idea's they give me and the fact that people are actually nicer to each other!

Well I'm off to see about who I am giving what to  and which I need to get into the post tomorrow before the arrive in the middle of January! Oh and what I still need to buy!!

  2. I'm admiring all the superwomen, who are always in time and never to late!
I give it up. Can't become that perfect and we all have to manage it at christmas, if I again forget some important things.
(But we benefit from my faults - we become kind of innovative...)
Wishing you strengh for all you have still to manage!

    1. Sounds like you have the perfect family Christmas! It's great having to be innovative when things are forgotten! :)
And those superwomen are probably too worn out to enjoy themselves! :)
I will get there if I stop playing on computer!!! :) xx

  4. I'm in the same position with regards to Christmas preparations BUT this isn't stopping me from spending far too much time looking at and commenting on the Sasha blogs, preparing my own blog post/s and messing around with my Sasha Dolls and camera instead of writing my Christmas cards, putting up and decorating the tree and house... not to mention planning and making a start on the food for the meals etc.
I always have a tendency 'to put off until tomorrow what should be done today!' ......So guessing that it will be the usual mad stressful rush at the end. Will I ever learn?

    1. You have hit the nail on the head Kendal! Too much time on computer checking everything Sasha out! does not help with getting backside in gear and getting things done!
I find the hardest thing is finding somewhere to stand the Christmas tree! We do not design our rooms and say .Oh I'll not put something there as that's for the Christmas tree ! No we use all the room and then have to play find a spot every December!
Luckily I never stress about Christmas, what happens or not so be it!! I just blame Santa ! :)xx

  5. I thought about, and I believe it's not only christmas,
but the try for ending the whole year as n i c e l y as possible.
It's also the end of the darkest time in year and we desperately need all the light that comes with christmas.
Additional- times ago the people wanted to be prepared for midwinter and the 'Rauhnächte' - the 12 nights after christmas. So it was a busy time ever. (Better being busy but depressed :)

I think it isn't a virus, and not a commercial thing; but kind of a collective remembering or -wisdom.
Rudolf Dahlke named this 'geladene Felder' = Places or HighDays wich are filled for centuries
with meaning, prayers, songs and emotions from manymany people.

Why not celebrate this all in a completely personal -or deviant way?!

    1. This is so true, the year is coming to an end and it is nice if it goes out well. I so love that word..MIDWINTER .. it has such a ring to it. I know that the dark can get to people, It does not bother me but some find these months hard but once we are past the 21st the days will begin to slowly get lighter for longer as we move into the new year.
Maybe those old bah humbug's should celebrate the wonder of MIDWINTER ? :)) xx

    2. Whereas I grew up with Christmas in the middle of our 6 week summer holidays (though we still had the full roast turkey, gammon etc for dinner every year except one when we were camping in Swaziland so had a wonderful cold buffet instead). So Christmas doesn't mean 'midwinter' to me but togetherness with family and friends. We don't decorate until just a few days before Christmas day and keep them up until 6th January - as we celebrate the 12 days/nights of Christmas. We have an advent wreath on our front door all through Advent.

    3. I don't think I could deal with a HOT Christmas! It would seem so strange! These days my tree etc does not get put up until nearly the last minute, one Christmas when we were decorating and I was working , the tree did not get decorated until Christmas Morning!!
The tree is always down by the 2nd January but the door wreath stays until the 6th for twelfth night .

  6. I for one will definitely be celebrating the Middle of Winter, and am so happy that after the 21st it'll be getting lighter again, as slowly but surely we move into spring again. I know we're lucky in that our winters are so much shorter and our days don't get dark until 6.30pm even right in the middle of winter, but I still do not like the cold weather...and again I know by some people's standards, we don't get really cold here, but it's all relative I guess. I think Barbra is right, we should just celebrate another good year passing and the middle of winter, and it'll soon be spring ....yeah!!!!! :)

    1. I even love the carol.. In the bleak Mid Winter! It's amazing that we still have two of the winter months to get through but as soon as it's new year you feel like it won't be long because the days are lightening!. I am sure I'd be wearing a jumper in Spain if I was there now!! lol :)

    1. Thank you Louise I am nearly sorted and I did only keep one thing that I was only sort of thinking of giving as a present, so that's quite good for me really!! lol :)
Mind you I am expecting a few parcels so hopefully I won't take a shine to anything in those!! :) xx

  8. You will be just fine Dee! You do all things well! Just coming off your C&S and the wedding, you now find yourself immersed in Christmas festivities. You have been so super busy! So, I think it is okay to be side-tracked with all things Sasha. That is what makes all the hustle and bustle tolerable and keeps us sane. Enjoy the holidays and thanks for another great post! :) xxx

  9. I'm tuning up gradually - it isn't as much work this year as in the past as it will just be the three of us here. However, I cheated - calendars for the relations on the other side of the Atlantic instead of cards, because I know they will be late and a calendar might be more useful anyway.
There's nothing like a spot of illness to put it all in perspective. I don't have the energy to get worked up about it all and yet, it is all happening anyway, if not in a super-timely fashion.

    1. I'm liking that expresssion...Tuning up gradually..... I do like a good cheat..ie the calenders instead of cards! I must confess I am not worried about it , if I was I'd not be forever on the computer chatting, I'd be getting my backside in gear and making things happen! I think I'll start seriously tomorrow.. ;)xxx
