CHRISTMAS IS COMING...

So we have finally put up a holly wreath on the front door.

This is one of the things I like about Christmas, seeing these lovely wreaths hanging on peoples front doors.

I enjoy going and picking one each year and bringing it home and putting it on.I do have a fake one but much prefer the real thing, so will save the fake one until we are retired and blanch at the cost of real!!

Also when we put this up it reminds me that we still have not changed the door. I am not a big fan of double glazed front doors, although some of the newer ones you can get with colour do look quite nice. We want a nice solid oak door in keeping with the cottage style of the house and since we will have lived here Ten years this coming March I think we should get it replaced by the end of 2015.

I have also managed at long last to wrap a few presents that I need to get into the post! I am still waiting on a couple of things so will need to make another trip to the post office!

So still have to put up Christmas Tree and decorate and finish any last minute Christmas shopping and I am working everyday from now up to and including Christmas eve!

Well what else have I done today! Oh yes taken the photos for the next part of Connor's going home.. I'd best go make them into the post of the blog...come back later and see what happened.... :)

Still bought no christmastree, last year it was challenge - at least we take the last meter from a logged tree, sadly the braches were cut too. *g
Nobody thought this could be a christmastree ever, but it worked.
This year there want me to promise that we get a 'normal' one. We'll see :)

And now patiently waiting what happens, as you ask for ...

I have given up on real Christmas tree as they are now so expensive , so will have a tree that looks almost real, first need to find a space for it and then up it up!.

  3. Go steady on the oak door, Dee!

We thought it would be perfect, get rid of the ugly double glazed door and put in a strong, beautiful, oak one, hand made by a ship fitter friend. Not so, it swells up for 6 to 8 weeks every winter so we can't open it, then it shrinks in the summer, leaving a lovely drafty gap, just in time for the winds of autumn to blast through, before swelling up to keep us prisoner in the winter again. No amount of oiling makes it waterproof and varnish just peeled off. Next spring I'm going to gloss the wretched thing - bright purple. Oh and the wreath I made yesterday has blown away, no doubt somebody will find a sheep wearing it round her neck at some point.

Ronnie, Christmas 2014 is the special day when lots of SASHAS arrive at my house. So, I'll take a year off from being the Grinch and let you do the job for me. I'll want the post back for next year though, you are only the temp Grinch.

    1. It's OK we know all about oak doors and I'm happy to have to deal with it, Paul being a full qualified carpenter and joiner , will tweek it until it barely sticks in Winter and has only small gap in Summer and hey I still have the door curtain from last house to keep out any strong draughts!! maybe when we is old old people we'll go back to double glazed but there is nothing so nice as a real door! :)

Jen you could not possibly be a Grinch will all the Sashas about to descend on your house, I am sure Ronny will relish the task of out Grinching the Grinch for this Christmas!! :)

    1. That sentence so made me laugh, I could just see the wreath hurtling down the field to land on a very surprised sheep ! Lucky they have such nice heavy fleece to keep them from getting prickled by the holly!! :)

  5. Pretty wreath Dee....I had one and some buggar nicked it from the front door, along with next doors plant pot and another neighbours picture of Jesus and the Sacred Heart!!!! What a combination eh? Oh and they nicked my hook that I hung it on with and that was a SOUVENIR from a trip to Walmart...swines!
As for the door, an oak one would look nice but yes they stick.....we have wooden doors, blooming nighmare...and since losing my excess weight (or at least a lot of it!) bashing the door open with my bum has become a little painful, now that there isn't quite so much padding on there!!!!
I too loved Jenni's description of the wreath blowing away and landing on some poor unsuspecting sheep...unless the same person nicked hers too? ;)
    Big hugs Sharon xxxx

    1. Maybe they were poor people and their need was greater!! (That's the good speech) They should be put in the stocks and have old Brussels thrown at them ( that's the bad speech! )
As for the door , well I can only say I just have to have nice things around me even if that means fighting the door to gain entry to the house!!
Wonder if that's sheep's still wearing the wreath and making eyes at the Ram!!
      hugs Dee xx
